Sports week starting 22nd June
It’s a pity we can’t be together for our normal Sports Day so instead we’re going to “throw out” some ideas that you could try at home.
Obstacle course
Why not try designing your own obstacle course. Get someone to time you and see how fast you can go.
Egg/Spud and spoon challenge
Make a track around your garden and see how many times you can run around it without dropping your spud/egg.
Standing jump challenge.
Start with your two feet together. Swing your arms and then jump as far as you can. See can you beat your last jump. Guess how far you can jump and measure it afterwards.
Throwing challenge
This can be done with a basketball and net or just throwing a ball/beanbag into something like a box or a laundry basket. You could set up a series of markers like cones or plastic bottles. the nearest one could be one point. The next nearest could be two points and so on. Every time you score at a marker move to the next one. Give yourself ten throws. Add up your score. See if you can beat your last score.
Add a bit of fun. Try throwing the ball backwards over your head…..don’t break any windows!
Wheelbarrow/3-legged race
If you are lucky to have siblings, cousins or friends nearby then a 3-legged race or wheelbarrow race can be great fun. Create a track with little obstacles to go around to add to the fun.
Hurling challenge
Challenge yourself! How many times can you hit a ball against a wall in 30 seconds. Try using your weaker side or alternating between your stronger and weaker sides. See if you can improve your score. Set yourself a target and try and beat it!
Long puck challenge
If you have access to a field try a long puck challenge. Measure how far you puck the ball/sliotar by counting the number of steps between where you hit the ball and where it stopped.
Football challenge
See how many kicks you can do against a wall in 30 seconds. Set a target and try and beat it! Try using your weaker foot!
